Mission/General Statement
The Rape Crisis Program at Kentucky River Community Care provides an array of services to adult and child victims of sexual assault, abuse, and incest in the eight county service area (Breathitt, Knott, Lee, Leslie, Letcher, Owsley, Perry, and Wolfe.)
The central element of KRCC's Rape Crisis intervention program is its 24-hour rape crisis hotline. The hotline is staffed by trained program staff, counselors, telephone line technicians, and crisis volunteers. The hotline receives calls from victims of recent sexual assault, from their family and friends, and from victims of prior sexual assault. In addition, calls are received from parents of sexually abused children, adult incest victims, and increasingly, male victims of sexual assault. The purpose of the rape crisis telephone service is to provide crisis intervention, crisis assessment, crisis counseling, and referral services 24-hours a day, 7 days a week. It serves as a link between rape victims arriving at the five community hospitals and volunteer rape counselor-advocates. The rape crisis line serves as a gateway to other emergency services in the community including emergency access to child and adult protection services, services for shelter, and mental health services.
